Bottles Bottles

17th Sep 2012

As a new parent, one of the first things that ran through my mind was what kind of bottle I was going to use.  I went to the local baby store and found there were tons of options. So many that I was going crazy looking at all of them.  I decided to ask around and found that 3 were very popular.  Playtex drop-ins, Born Free and Dr. Brown.  Once my son was born I bought different ones and tried them out. My favorite by far were the Playtex Drop-ins. My son loves these bottles and they are so easy to clean.  I bought tons of the different sized nipples and washed those in my Madela bags and then all I had to do was wash the outside and drop in the plastic drop-in when needed.  I actually would put powdered formula in the bags and have them ready for the next day.  Born Free were nice bottles but there are too many parts to undo when cleaning them and if you do not have the parts put together correctly the formula does not flow through the nipple right.  Dr. Browns are highly recommended but I didn’t like that you have to wash out the straw part. Playtex Drop-ins it is and will always be! Love them.

Umbrella stroller

9th Sep 2012

I never thought I would ever need an umbrella stroller as many call it. I had my Chicco that goes along with the Chicco KeyFit30 carseat and I thought I was set, but boy was I wrong. Umbrella strollers are great for when your child is older. They are easily collapsable and are so small and perfect for those quick trips to the mall or quick stroll in the neighborhood.  It is a definite must have.  I purchased the Maclaren Volo.  Super light weight, easy to fold and unfold, has an arm strap to carry it and works for when your little one is 6 months and older. I absolutely love it and still use it all of the time. It is permanently in the trunk of my car.  I think the thing I love the most about the Maclaren Volo is the qualify. It goes over bumps without you even noticing.. Definitely a great purchase.

Musical Mobile Gym

7th Sep 2012

Every baby loves to look at things and watch them move and look at different colors.  When my son was around 2 months old we purchased the Fisher Price Luv U Zoo Deluxe Musical Mobile Gym.  My great friend Jen was visiting and really wanted to buy him something so we decided on this.  I loved that it had animals on it and it sings music and flashes different color lights for him to look at.  At first he was too young to care about this great mobile gym, but when he became older, he loved it. It was a safe little place where I could place him and he could be entertained for a while.  Even now that he is 1 year old, we still have our mobile gym in his room and he loves to run in and push the botton on the top and dance when the music plays. Definitely a must have.  You can purchase it below!

Bumbo Wumbo-Important Recall Info

6th Sep 2012

Bumbo Wumbo… Have you had a Bumbo for your little one? I heard so much about having to have this thing.  I have to tell you that I thought it was cute and the color was great, but I did not use it only a handful of times and it just wasn’t something I feel is needed.  As you can see in the picture when I was first introducing rice cereal to him we fed him in the Bumbo but that only lasted 3 days.  I ended up selling mine before he was five months old.  Some folks love it, I just didn’t feel it was something new parents MUST have.  On August 15, 2012, South African based Bumbo International announced that it was recalling about 4 million Bumbo Floor Seats because babies can wriggle out of the seat and fall, posing a serious injury risk. Please be careful if you are purchasing.

LifeSaver…Infant Rocker

5th Sep 2012

The Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker really did save our lives. We could not live without this thing.  Most people purchase a bassinet to carry their infant around the house, but we were lucky to get this as a gift at our baby shower.  The Infant to Toddler Rocker has a handle that you can detach and it also can rock or you can make it stand still.  There is also a vibrating function that is battery operated.  My son loves this.  He always hung out in here while we did the dishes and made dinner. He learned how to make himself rock and many times slept in here.  When he was older and came down with colds and had crup, he would sleep in here during the night. It was perfect because it kept him upright and its very stable.  This is one thing every household needs.  Thanks Aunt Jeannen and cousin Becky!  You can purchase it below!

Boppy or Bust

2nd Sep 2012

If you ever wondered if you would use a Boppy Nursing Pillow, the answer is YES.  How could we live the past year without this thing?  Many think the Boppy is only used for when you are nursing your little one. Let me tell you we have used it on a daily basis until about a month ago.  Not only did I use it when he was nursing, but it became a nightly ritual for YagoPau to lay on his Boppy and take his last bottle before bed.  Now that he is off the bottle he still likes to lay in his Boppy because this is something he is used to.  I find the Boppy is very inexpensive, easy to wash by throwing the cover in the washer and functions as a pillow.  New moms, YES this is a must have.

Infant Car Seat Drama

31st Aug 2012

Every parent wants their newborn to be safe in their vehicle.  It took me a long time to figure out what kind of infant car seat I wanted.  I asked my best friend Dionne which car seat she recommended. She is a nurse in the NICU and is around many pediatricians and parents. She told me the Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat is the one to get.  The installation is a piece of cake and it has a five point harness which makes it extremely easy to put baby in and out.  There is removable padding inserts for babies from 4-11 lbs.  The base does come with carseat although it is not needed.  To top things off you can purchase a Chicco stroller and the KeyFit 30 simply clicks into place on the stroller.  This was one of the best purchases I made. As my son approaches the 30 lb weight limit, I realize how much I love the simplicity of the Chicco KeyFit30 and don’t want to have to move on.

Baby Carriers and Slings

30th Aug 2012

What new parent doesnt want some sort of carrier or sling so they can carry their little one and still do chores around the house or go grocery shopping? We especially liked using our baby carrier when our son was around 4 months old. It seemed at this age he wanted to see everything we were doing and not just lay in a baby papasan.  I had the My Baby Nest sling and I was very excited about it, but it was not good.  It was hard to put on and I felt like my baby’s head was not very stable.  My wonderful friend Michelle bought us the BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier for little Yago Pau. I LOVE IT.  It is simple to use and the straps are adjustable for mommy and daddy.  You child can be front facing or facing against you.  My son loves his and we would take him shopping in it and around the house while we were doing house work.  My husband would stand with him in it and play his XBox and Yago Pau would fall asleep in it. Just look at the picture above. :) I think its great and I highly recommend it.  I found that we used our Baby Bjorn for a certain time period of his life. From 3-7 months.

Trike or Bike

29th Aug 2012

We knew when our son was walking that we wanted to buy him some sort of bicycle.  I had looked around and thought of a push scooter first or a tricycle and then my dear friend Katy had the most perfect Trike for her baby girl Avery.  The Schwinn Easy Steer Tricycle was the answer for the next three years.  My younger brother, Dan decided he wanted to buy Yago Pau his frist trike.  It has a removable push / steer handle that allows mommy and daddy to control steering and speed while pushing your child.  It also has foot rest for when your child is younger that can be removed when they get older and can use the pedals.  It is very sturdy and I guarantee your child will love this tricycle and it can grow with them until they are three years old or even older.
